Pilates was originally designed to help the injured and sick during World War I. Its popularity increased following the war when its creator Joseph Pilates, used his techniques to strengthen dancers in New York. Although Pilates should not be used to take the place of Physical Therapy, many physical therapists are incorporating Pilates techniques and equipment into rehabilitation. This is because many of the exercises focus on core strength and flexibility, which is essential for restoring function for day to day activities, all the way to the elite athletics. At Hands On Physical Therapy we incorporate many different core exercises into our rehabilitation programs, including those inspired by Pilates. If you or anyone you know requires skilled rehabilitation including a multitude of strengthening techniques, Hands On Physical Therapy’s doors are always open.
